A club gathering Agrintesa, Sapore di Romagna and Spreafico, has created a new plum variety called Tasty Sweet. The characteristics of the fruit are a round shape, sweet flavor and firm texture. The three companies are the exclusive holders of the cultivation and commercialization rights of the plants, which are produced for Italy by Vivai F.lli Zanzi.
“Plums represent an important product within the summer fruit segment but, over the past few years, the varieties available on the market have often not met consumer expectations. This is why we decided to develop a fruit capable of reaffirming the identity of plums and their role on the Italian tables," reads a note from the three companies.
The Tasty Sweet club goes in this direction: meet, through varietal innovation, the demands of a market that is increasingly segmented, with consumers that choose the premium range increasingly often and with products that stand out due to their quality, healthiness, certification and varietal innovation.
A medium-early variety, Tasty Sweet is characterized by vigorous plants that produce round fruits with a distinct purple color, firm yellow flesh and excellent shelf-life. The plums ripen around the second week of July. The variety has a great production capacity and it is easy to grow. It was developed by Zaiger Genetics USA for IPS France and the fruits boast a high Brix level - between 18 and 20° - with a unique flavor.
"Tasty Sweet boasts unique characteristics and is cultivated only by three leading producers - Agrintesa, Sapore di Romagna and Spreafico. The club formula - a closed cycle starting from the production of plants, which is entrusted exclusively to Vivai F.lli Zanzi - will enable all producers to get enough profits to justify their investment, thus guaranteeing their sustainability."
"Tasty Sweet will help to regenerate the idea of plums for consumers and fully please their palates."
