The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism reported that, after eight years of work between the health authorities, the Hass avocado producers and the Government of Chile, the country received the endorsement to export this product to that country. To that end, Chilean health authorities had visited the farms where the avocados are produced.
Chile has allowed the importation of the Hass avocado which is produced in six farms in Antioquia, five in Sonsón and one in Urrao, as well as the authorization of ten packing plants located in Risaralda, Quindío, Antioquia and Valle del Cauca.
The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) Chile carried out a series of regulatory processes to include these properties on its list. Macro figures also reveal that, from January to June, Colombian avocado exports were around US$109.6 million, with the United States, United Kingdom, Spain and the Netherlands being the main destinations.
