In 2021, Spain was the world's largest exporter of eggplants. Last year, according to data prepared by Hortoinfo, 657.14 million kilos were marketed internationally for 500.52 million euros and an average price of 0.76 €/kg.
In 2021, Spain led the export volume with 166.45 million kilos of eggplants. It was followed by Iran with 165.52 million kilos, Mexico with 89.76 million, the Netherlands with 64.18, and Türkiye with 33.99 million kilos.
In 2021, Spain also led eggplant exports by value, as Spanish eggplant exports amounted to 183.02 million euros. It was followed by the Netherlands with sales worth 83.02 million euros, Mexico with 66.17 million euros, the United States with 27.42 million, and Iran with 26.82 million euros.
The average price, however, was led by the Netherlands, which sold its eggplants at an average price of 1.29 €/kg as. Spain sold them at an average price of 1.10 €/kg.
Destinations
The largest customer for Spanish eggplant was France with 50.67 million kilos, followed by Germany with 32.88 million kilos, Italy with 25.16 million kilos, the United Kingdom with 16.08 million kilos, and the Netherlands with 12.32 million kilos of eggplant.
Iran exported 89.24 million kilos of eggplant to Iraq, 20.95 to Afghanistan, and 18.75 million kilos to Russia.
Mexico shipped almost all of its eggplant exports (99.03%) to the USA.
