Papua New Guinea potato growers demand market to sell

Enga province potato growers are calling for government intervention to develop a more efficient supply chain system. They want their supplies to reach the food markets in main cities like Port Moresby and Lae.

According to program coordinator for the Lagaip Poverty Relievers Association (LPRA), Tony Sulupin, there is a need to establish an effective and efficient supply chain system for potato so that the 200 farmers could sell their fresh potato without losing quality. Sulupin said that potato was not a new crop as people have been used to cultivating it for ages, but to plant in commercial scale, they need government intervention.
