The French group of producers Val Durance Luberon, based in the Vaucluse department, has started marketing its plums with the varieties Reine Claude Dorée, Stanley and Mirabelle.
The plum production looks promising but José Illan, manager of the group, hopes that the market will be good this season, and at least better than for the apricots. “The trees are full and the sizes are satisfactory. We just hope that the demand will be good and that prices will be attractive, unlike this year’s very low apricot prices. Distributors are not changing their selling prices, even though they are buying from us at record-low prices,” but José Illan remains optimistic.
The group's flagship products include white and green asparagus (400 tons), cherries (600 tons), kiwis (300 tons), apricots (1000 tons), grapes (1,500 tons) and plums (100 tons).
A good season ahead for table grapes
The table grape season has started as well. “So far, the harvest looks promising.” The range of table grapes offered by Val Durance Luberon include: Prima, Lavallée, Lival and Muscat (Hamburg and PDO du Ventoux) black grapes, and Danlas, Chasselas, Muscat d'Alexandrie and Centennial Seedless white grapes grown in the field and then stored for a long time.
GP Val Durance Luberon sells mainly in France to wholesalers and central purchasing agencies, but also in Switzerland and Germany.
