The harvesting of peaches and nectarines is in full swing at "Domenico Laghi"

Hand processing for premium apricots

Harvesting apricots almost ready for consumption means dedicated hand processing is needed, which is what Domenico Laghi from Forlì carries out every day to provide "ready to eat" produce to the Italian and European markets. "The campaign continues to be 7-10 days early and the harvesting of stone fruit is currently in full swing in Romagna. Apricots will be available for another 20-25 days at least, while peaches and nectarines will be available for much longer," reports owner Jenny Ghiddi.

The shelf life of products processed by hand is much longer than that of fruits transported mechanically, which means exports are no problem despite the higher ripening stage.

Switzerland, Germany and Austria are just some of the countries "Domenico Laghi" exports to. "We work with Switzerland a lot, there are areas where clients only require fruit of the highest quality, and our line meets their standards. Peaches and nectarines have now settled on grade "A". Some foreign markets still require grades B and C for punnets, while Italy demands larger ones."

"The sale of peaches and nectarines proceeds with normal prices, yet our clients request ongoing supplies because they know quality and a precise organization are guaranteed. Last minute orders are coming in more and more often from the big retail chain, which do not allow for planning: we are so organized that we can deal with these requests too."

Such a good organization is also possible thanks to a historic group of collaborators. The same employees have been working at "Domenico Laghi" for years, so there is an atmosphere of mutual trust.
