Comavit produces 2.5 million poles per year

An effective protection system relies on strong poles and precise design

With 2.5 million poles sold annually, Comavit is one of Europe's largest suppliers of components for orchard protection systems.
Comavit was founded in 1973 as a manufacturer of concrete poles for vineyards and orchards.

The Italian company began marketing all the complementary accessories that are essential for planting orchards and vineyards, with the aim of offering its customers a more integrated service. In 2012, Comavit started its own production of metal poles to facilitate mechanical work in the vineyard.

"Comavit ships all over the world, and the value of its exports is steadily increasing," says Nicola Costa, sales manager for Italy. "We advise fruit growers to consider all aspects when making decisions. While it may seem financially advantageous to save costs when setting up an orchard, this is not a strategy that will yield long-term benefits. Instead, growers should prioritize quality, experience, and the evaluation of potential risks associated with changing weather conditions."

All operations are based on a foundation of meticulous planning. In recent times, there has been a notable rise in the occurrence of extreme weather events, characterised by intense winds, hail, and rainfall well above the historical averages recorded in previous decades. "Consequently, a number of elements must be evaluated at the design stage, and this can only be achieved by a team of specialists who, beginning with the requirements of the agricultural business, implement a system that is highly resilient.
The return on investment for dealing with catastrophic events has shortened considerably," Costa explains.

"The creation of a protection system, whether it is anti-hail, anti-rain, or against insects, requires a comprehensive study that considers not only the type of materials, but also the specific type of farm, its location, orientation, and soil type. It is crucial to avoid leaving anything to chance, given the significant costs involved and the need to weigh each investment carefully. This is why it is essential to rely on teams of experts. For instance, we collaborate with select companies to provide comprehensive solutions, such as the 'i4fruit' package. Alternatively, we can recommend our local partners on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the specific needs of each area," adds Costa.

Comavit was founded in 1973 by Silvio Viezzer. The company currently operates six concrete pile production lines with a combined capacity of 11 km of piles per day. "The strength of a prestressed concrete pile depends on a number of factors, including temperature and environmental conditions. To this end, our facilities are designed to allow for the adjustment of the curing system according to weather conditions."

The company's core values are reflected in the words of its founder, Silvio Viezzer: "Listening to our customers, investing in technological research and the skills of our employees is and will be our way forward. It is essential to understand the present and the past in order to look to the future."
