Uzbekistan has announced an extension of zero import duties, a move directly impacting the import of various food categories, including a broad spectrum of fruits and vegetables. This decision, as outlined in a decree by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, prolongs the exemption period until January 1, 2026. Initially set to expire by January 1, 2024, this extension underscores efforts to maintain price stability for imported foods within the nation.
Included in the decree are items such as bananas, citrus fruits, other fruits, onions, and certain vegetables. This comprehensive list reflects a strategic approach to bolstering the availability of essential food items without imposing additional financial burdens on importers. Moreover, the decree facilitates the continued influx of these products by eliminating the application of double customs duty rates for goods manufactured in countries lacking a preferential trade agreement with Uzbekistan, albeit restricted to the end of 2025.
