After successfully experimenting with the system in Vietnam, the supermarket chain is deploying blockchain technology to its products in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Senegal.
In France, the first product concerned is the organic carrot. You will be able to follow the exact route of the product you have bought, from the seed provided to the plate. The blockchain mobilizes all the actors involved in the life of a product: producers, processors, logisticians, distributors, each in turn records, on a same platform, all the information that guarantees traceability from one end to of the chain to the other. The information is accessible to the customer through a QR code on the product label.
In December 2018, the system will be extended to potatoes and in February 2019 to chicken.
This approach is part of Auchan Retail's strategy to become an activist for good, healthy and local produce.
