Researchers of the American University of Plymouth have developed a harvesting robot that can pick strawberries. The robot is currently still very slow at harvesting, but it should soon start picking faster than people.
On average, a human can pick 15,000 strawberries in eight hours. The robot is expected to pick 25,000 strawberries per day.
The robot is 1.8 metres high and rides through the greenhouses on wheels. A 3D camera and sensors help find the ripe strawberries and pick them properly. The eventual version of the robot will have four grabs.
