Amar Djemaoune, Piedor:

“French blueberries have been on the market for two weeks”

At Piedor, located on the MIN of Rungis, it is now possible to find blueberries from Spain, Portugal and France. “We started the Spanish blueberries 2-3 months ago, the Portuguese 1 month ago and the French 2 weeks ago,” explains Amar Djemaoune of Piedor.

Blueberry sales during lockdown were not very fluid because consumers preferred basic necessities. However, Amar indicates that blueberry consumption increases each year, progressively becoming part of the consumption habits of the French. “We are not yet at the level of the British or Americans, but blueberries are consumed more and more in France.”

The quality for all three origins is satisfactory this year, but the French blueberries are favored on the French market. As for the Portuguese origin, it is popular among consumers because of its taste qualities, higher than that of the Spanish blueberries.
