Berry campaign coming to an end in Huelva with good results for blueberries

The raspberry and blueberry campaign is practically finished in the Spanish province of Huelva, with 99% of the season's expected production volume already harvested. According to data from the Markets and Prices Observatory of the Andalusian Council of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, the average price at origin of raspberries this season has decreased slightly compared to the previous one, specifically by 0.37%. In absolute terms, the average price of raspberries this campaign has stood at 5.36 Euro / kilo, compared to 5.38 Euro / kilo in the previous one and 5.84 Euro / kilo two seasons ago.

Blueberries have yielded better results than raspberries when it comes to their price at origin. In this campaign, the average price has been one Euro higher than in the previous one, with an average of 4.48 Euro / kilo, compared to 3.45 Euro / kilo in 2018/2019 and 4.06 Euro / kilo in the 2017/2018 season.

The campaign
This year's raspberry campaign has been marked by instability. It started with "notably" higher marketing percentages than in previous campaigns, especially until January. After that, the volume stabilized and the results during the rest of the season have been similar to those of the previous one. In the first weeks of June, the price has remained stable at 4.36 Euro / kilo.

Regarding blueberries, the campaign started with low weekly prices; however, as of Easter, prices rose due to the fall in the production, and therefore, in the supply, as a consequence of weather factors. In the final stretch of the campaign, the average price has been better than in the previous season.

The 2019/2020 berry campaign has undoubtedly been marked by the economic circumstances resulting from the health crisis, and although Andalusian agro-food producers have been among those who have best dealt with this crisis, they have still suffered due to the movement restrictions decreed worldwide and the paralysis of the economic sectors.

It is important to keep in mind that the most important sales markets for this agricultural sector are in Central European and Northern European countries. At least 80% of the berries grown in the province of Huelva are exported.
