"In addition to apricots, peaches, cherries, melons and watermelons, our vast assortment now includes also Fioroni figs and yellow and red plums. These two new references have only been on the market for a few days, and there is already a positive trend in both requests and prices.
"With regard to Fioroni, strictly produced in Basilicata and currently being harvested for one more week, the requests are mainly from Central and Southern Italy, with sales prices between 1.50 and 2.00 €/kg. As for plums, harvesting started weekend and we have requests from all over the country, with prices quoted at 1 €/kg." This is according to Rocco Viggiano, sales manager of Fe.Vi. Frutta di Policoro (Matera).
"The fruit and vegetable markets are now stocked with classic summer products, despite the rather unusual summer weather. The absence of persistent high temperatures is reducing consumption for some products, such as watermelons and melons. Generally speaking, it is natural to record a commercial stalemate in the second ten days of June, precisely because consumers purchase reduced quantities of each reference when they have a wide availability of choice."
"It is above all the apricot that has been affected by this trend, with orders dropping in almost all of Italy, and prices below one euro. We still have 10 days left until the end of the 2020 campaign. The orders for peaches and nectarines, on the other hand, are stationary, but the large-caliber product is missing. In fact, size B is difficult to sell and prices do not exceed 0.70 €/kg."
"Overall, things seem to be going well. Despite the pandemic emergency and the various climatic problems we faced this year, the whole agricultural sector is coping well. Everything from our warehouse runs out at the end of the day.
