Laurance Primeurs supplies many restaurants in the Paris region. Eric Roy, in charge of the group’s strategy, explains that the coronavirus still has a huge impact on the activity of independent wholesalers. “When restaurants were closed, we were at 30-40% of our normal activity. Since the lockdown lifted in France, the situation has improved, but we have not regained the previous level yet. Today, we are at 60-70% of our usual activity. This can be explained, among other things, by the lack of tourism, especially felt by our clients in the hotel and restaurant business.”
Laurance Primeurs wants to help restaurants as much as possible. “We have already done some promotions with gift cards, and we currently offer nice discounts for the first back-to-school orders.”
Serious competitor
According to Eric, there is room for a true competitor among restaurant suppliers. “The market is virtually monopolized, with only very few independent subsidiaries. We will continue to be very present on this market by supplying medium to high-end restaurants with our fruit, vegetables and seafood products.”
Besides restaurants, Laurance Primeurs also supplies supermarkets with seasonal products. Sales are going well. “For the plum for example, there is no supply problem and the quality is good. The demand is lower than usual, but the situation on the market is quite positive. As for summer vegetables like tomatoes and zucchinis, the market seems normal.”
