Agricola Campidanese, 'Exceptional quality due to the climate, close to the end.'

Watermelons and melons are not enough because of the many requests from abroad

"The watermelon and melon market took off too late. After about two months of consumption and low prices, we are now experiencing a boom in orders in less than 20 days, with prices rising by 30% and an availability that, assuming all goes well, will not go beyond the very first days of September". These are the words of Salvatore Lotta, commercial director of the Sardinian P.O. Agricola Campidanese.

"This year, the campaign of "L'orto di Eleonora" will end one month earlier than 2019, because of both the high volumes that we daily deliver to national and international markets, and the -30% reduction in cultivated areas, which was planned during the transplanting period."

"Many of the products are also requested by the foreign market, in particular Germany, the Netherlands and France. In addition to long-standing customers, new large-scale retail chains emerged, but we are trying to focus on the number of orders that need to be processed, in an effort to guarantee product and continuity of supply to all customers. These are the last days of a campaign that started in an excellent way in May, only to slow down a few weeks later and start again at full speed from 10 August, with commercial volumes of over 400 tons per day of product."

"What made our watermelons and melons so valuable was the climate. In Sardinia, in fact, the summer months were hot and dry, a weather trend that favored the quality of the product and reduced the phytopathogenic attacks. Our fruits are very crisp and have a really exceptional flesh color, with a sweetness that reaches 15° brix for watermelons and 17° brix for melons."
