In 2019, Polish fruit growers collected more than 3 million tonnes of apples, which accounted for nearly 90 percent of all fruits harvested in Polish orchards. In terms of sales volume, Poland is the largest EU and third largest global producer of this fruit.
Of course, apples are by far the main Polish export fruit. They account for over 75 percent of export volume of all fruit shipped from the country to abroad and at the same time over 1 percent of the value of Polish agri-food exports.
Wbj.pl reports that on the list of EU exporters, Poland is the export leader for the fourth year in a row with a 29.4 percent market share. The second position was occupied by Italy, which has been competing for the first place for several years, with a share of just over 28 percent (928,000 tonnes), followed by France, the Netherlands and Belgium.
