The Rocha pear, which has been present in the foreign market for more than two decades, is currently Portugal's most exported fruit and vegetable product. The Rocha pear has been conquering more and more markets around the world, specifically in Europe, the Americas (with the emphasis on Brazil and Canada), and Africa. The Rocha pear is a hit abroad and beloved among national consumers.
In today's world, being a fruit grower is a demanding and very professional activity. Producing in the eurozone, especially in Portugal, is quite expensive. Production costs are more expensive in Portugal. Labor, one of the factors that increases production costs the most, is scarce and very expensive.
Everyone can see the prices on the supermarket shelves and it is easy to see that this activity isn't always very profitable.
Given that this year's harvest fell by more than 40% and it is smaller than in previous years, the National Association of Rocha Pear Producers want consumers to have a greater appreciation of the producers who comply with the most demanding food safety certifications of the European and national distribution chains, making the Rocha pear a healthy and safe product for the whole family. This fruit is produced under high-quality standards, in integrated production regimes, applying sustainable protection measures to take care of the environment.
It should be noted that the Rocha pear has a protected designation of origin, a certification that guarantees the peculiar and unique characteristics of production and quality of a product grown in a specific area and in accordance with the knowledge of its people.
