Fall is the perfect season to purchase pumpkins, as volumes are abundant. To facilitate consumption and boost sales, Sipo specializes in the supply of pre-cut pumpkins.
Stefania Santarsiero, Sipo marketing department
"Pumpkins are medium-large vegetables, so they are not an easy purchase as consumers tend to prefer small portions they can cook quickly and without waste. This is why, a couple of years ago, we specialized in the preparation of trays with the best pumpkin varieties ready to be cooked," explains Sipo CEO Massimiliano Ceccarini.
It is a semi-automatic process, as pumpkins are peeled by machines and cut manually. "We performed various tests and realized that manual cuts extend the shelf-life. Our distinctive feature is that we supply consumers with high-quality pumpkins for which the intervention of skilled personnel is still very important."
The pumpkins come from Italy and are grown in the most suitable areas. During this period, Sipo pumpkins are grown in the Po Valley and are of the Delica, Butternut, Napoli and Moscata varieties.
"In addition to trays, there are also larger pieces consumers can then cut as they please. It is important to increase the consumption of this vegetable, as it has considerable nutritional properties."
Nutritionist Giancarla Monticelli explains that "winter pumpkins are a true dietetic food. The orange color highlights the high content of carotenoids (substances that protect from various types of cancer, heart diseases and type 2 diabetes) and vitamin A, with a good presence of vitamin C, vitamin E (a powerful antioxidant) and vitamins part of group B. In addition, they contain potassium, copper, manganese and iron."
