This week, the Swiss Fruit Association (SOV) announced this year's figures for domestic production of stone and soft fruit. Overall, all stone fruits (apricots, cherries and plums) showed declining yields, while strawberries and bush berries showed abundant yields.
Stone fruits
The trading volume of apricots was 6044 tons. It was 10.5% lower than in the previous year, due to the smaller harvest. The total consumption of apricots (including imports) increased compared to the 10-year average (16,115t) by 8%.
The trade volume 
of domestic cherries was 2033 tons. The total quantity sold through the trade/retail trade is 4564 tons, of which 2530 tons are imported. The quantities sold through direct marketing or through the weekly markets are generally increasing. The hot summer weather influenced the growth of cherries. The fruits grew not as large as expected, but ripened quickly.
Strawberries and bush berries
The area under cultivation of strawberries and bush berries remained stable in 2020 and amounts to 892 hectares. The protected areas (SGA, organic) also remained stable. 30.5% of strawberry and 74% of raspberry areas are covered. Organic production accounts for an average of 6% of the berries. Strawberries make up 4%, raspberries 5% and blackberries 6%. The organic share of the other bush berries varies between 12 and 31%.
The strawberry market amounted to 23,783 tons (including imports). Compared to 2019, the market volume increased by 1%. Domestic production (SGA & organic) was 7260 tons, which corresponds to a
increase of 6%. The share of domestic production was 30.5%.
The raspberry market amounted to 7068 tons (including imports). Compared to 2019, the market volume increased by 6%. Domestic production (SGA & organic) amounted to 2255 tons, which corresponds to increase by 14%. The share of domestic production amounted to 31.9%.
The blackberry market amounted to 880 tons (including imports). Compared to 2019, the market volume increased by about 10%. Domestic production (SGA & Bio) amounted to 663 tons, which
corresponds to an increase of 28%. Domestic production accounted for 75.4% of total consumption
The blueberry market amounted to 8035 tons (including imports). Compared to 2019, the market volume decreased by 2%. Domestic production (SGA & Bio) amounted to 650 tons, which corresponds to a
increase by 16%. Domestic production accounted for 8% of total consumption.
