The Kissabel apple is a variety that was developed by French grower IFO over a period of more than 20 years. The Kissabel apple strain contains three varieties: Kissabel Rouge, Orange, and Juane. The Kissabel apples have a distinct appearance and an exceptional flavor that caught the attention of Chinese consumers. This is the first time that Kissabel apples have entered the Chinese market, and only their second appearance in any Asian market.
Promotional event for Kissabel apples at the Shanghai Huizhan Fruit and Vegetable Market
A promotional event for Kissabel apples took place at Shanghai Huizhan Fruit and Vegetable Market on the 27th of November, 2020. "The main purpose of this promotional event is to give Chinese consumers the opportunity to experience the exceptional flavor of Kissabel apples and to provoke curiosity. We also hope that Chinese consumers will come to understand that our company is a specialized fruit importer with a long history and years of experience in the fruit industry." This is according to Mr. Tizio Jiang of Shanghai Ziqin Fruits and Vegetables Co., Ltd.

The Kissabel apple is brought to the Chinese market for the first time by French company Blue Whale. They began harvesting the Kissabel apples in September in their own Blue Whale orchards. The harvest season is progressing smoothly. The company estimates a production volume of as much as 700 tons. The fruit size is #88 and larger. The production volume is still relatively small because this is a new apple variety. The sales season is therefore quite short. "This time we mainly sell Kissabel Orange apples. The distinct red fruit flesh and exceptional flavor perfectly satisfies the Chinese consumer need for novelty," said Mr. Tizio Jiang.
Kissabel apples
The Kissabel apples on the Chinese market are sold under the Blue Whale brand name. The Blue Whale logo is also printed on the red boxes of Kissabel apples. "We currently sell these apples primarily in east China. In two or three years we plan to expand our retail market to include south China and north China. We usually sell the apples in the original boxes on the wholesale market, but we can also custom package them according to the specifications from our clients. Our apples are sold in Metro Supermarkets, RT Marts, Lianhua Supermarkets, and in Well Fruit stores. We also sell our apples online via Ding Dong and Meituan."
