Over the past year, Carrefour has sold 120,000 tons of Spanish citrus fruits; 40% more than in the previous year. 61% of this volume has been distributed via exports, since the chain supplies Spanish fruits and vegetables to stores in other countries where the group operates.
In total, 73,000 tons of oranges, mandarins, lemons and grapefruits of Spanish origin have been sold to countries such as France, Belgium, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Romania, Qatar or Brazil, among others. The remaining 47,000 tons have been marketed via www.carrefour.es and the chain's more than 1,200 stores in Spain.
With these purchases, the retailer is strengthening its support and commitment to local producers. The chain buys citrus fruits from 70 local Spanish companies. It sells oranges, mandarins and lemons under its Carrefour Quality and Origin brand, and offers red grapefruit under its Carrefour Quality Circle brand.
In this way, the company supplies its customers with quality citrus from the country's main national producing areas, such as Andalusia, the Region of Valencia and Murcia.
Carrefour complements its fresh citrus supply with the possibility of purchasing freshly squeezed orange juice in all its Carrefour Market hypermarkets and supermarkets. Citrus fruits are a source of vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin A, minerals and antioxidants.
