The Spanish mandarin season has reached the last phase of the season. "We are currently selling the last Clemenlate and Fortuna with leaves. The volumes are decreasing. The Clemenlate has a nice appearance, but these mandarins are more difficult to peel. The Fortuna's, on the other hand, have a little more peel damage, but these are easy peelers and therefore slightly easier to sell. Prices of Clemenlate are around 9-9.50 Euro, Fortuna around 10-10.50 Euro. We do see that the Clemenlate is gaining ground, because people also want to sell good boxes," says Erik Jan Thur of Marni Fruit from Barendrecht.
"We see that there are few large sizes of Spanish oranges on the market. Prices are around 11-11.50 euros. There are many oranges in stock from Egypt, especially the small (pressing) sizes are sufficiently available. You notice that these varieties do miss the sales towards the catering industry. I expect that when the corona rules are relaxed, this will certainly give a boost to the sales. The price of sizes 48-56 in open top is around 10 Euro and that of the Valencias in telescope boxes around 7.75-8 Euro. Class II oranges are sold for a price around 6.75 - 7 Euro. There are quite a few oranges from Egypt on the way, but sales may improve when the Spanish supply decreases. "
"Furthermore, the season of the Spanish Primofiori lemons is going well. For my customer group the real super quality is currently too expensive, but for slightly less quality prices are around 10/11 Euro. We will also start again soon with the first Spanish medlars. We work with the Ruchey brand, among other things. The cultivation of Spanish medlars is reasonably stable. It is also not a product group that has huge growth, but more and more customers are showing interest in the medlars.
We are also working with the Spanish growers to orientate what the expectations will be for the cherry season and the early stone fruit season from Murcia. How those sales will proceed is also largely weather and corona dependent," Erik-Jan concludes.
