Kloosterboer acquires Columbus Spedition GmbH in Bremerhaven, Germany

On 30 April 2021, Kloosterboer acquired Columbus Spedition GmbH, a leading forwarding company specialized in temperature-controlled food logistics located in the fishing port of Bremerhaven.

Columbus organizes the loading, unloading and transport of food containers, import and export management, as well as pre and post transport. Over the past 30 years, the selling parties FRoSTA Aktiengesellschaft, Würfel Spedition Beteiligungs-GmbH and SLH Sea Life Harvesting GmbH have developed Columbus into a leading forwarding company specialized in temperature-controlled food logistics. Handing over the business to Kloosterboer will take Columbus to the next level.

Integrated logistics services
According to Mark Ketelaar, Executive Director Port Cold Stores at Kloosterboer, the acquisition of Columbus is a logical step in the strategy to further expand Kloosterboer’s integrated logistics network. Kloosterboer has already operated the largest public cold store facility in the Bremerhaven port for several years, right in the heart of the German fish processing industry. With the growing cold storage market, there is an increasing demand for large, flexible and reliable logistics partners that offer end-to-end solutions. Through the acquisition of Columbus, Kloosterboer will be able to offer its customers these integrated logistics services, which include multimodal freight forwarding, organizing backhaul and customs documentation.

Scalable platform to offer one-stop-shop solutions
By combining the vast experience in cold storage, value-added services and logistics services, Kloosterboer will gain access to a scalable platform to offer our customers one-stop-shop solutions, said Hinrich Windler, CEO of Columbus Spedition.
