Selected nuts and quality in production processes accelerate growth

"During a totally uncertain scenario caused by the pandemic, we have proudly maintained our employment levels, indeed with some additional new hires, to ensure jobs for our workers. This is why Mocerino is awarding production bonuses to all those who have contributed to the growth of the brand, as part of its double-digit growth.

Giuseppe Mocerino is the production manager of the Italian family-owned company of the same name, with production and business offices in Campania and Lazio, which have modern plants occupying 25,000 square meters.

"In 2020 our company grew by 10%, thanks to the perseverance of a dedicated team that allowed us to find new customers, striving to offer only the best dried fruit available on the market. In fact, this is the only factor to build customer and consumer loyalty."

Mocerino Frutta Secca is a family-run business, founded by Carmine Mocerino in the 1950s in Somma Vesuviana, province of Naples, to enhance the value of products obtained from their own lands, and in particular of dried fruit. The company is now in its third generation of entrepreneurs with Salvatore Mocerino and his sons Antonio and Giuseppe and is one of the main players in the dried fruit sector both in Italy and abroad.

The selection of products under the brand Mocerino Frutta secca is wide, including walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, but also products for the well-being, such as ginger and dehydrated fruit, as well as goji, blueberries and many other references.

"By 2021, the brand will invest of 5 million euros to upgrade its facilities on a new area of 20,000 square meters, with new processing lines suitable for greater production capacity, especially in the innovative segment of snacks and snack bars. We focus on transparency in processing, with a view to guaranteeing the traceability of products, which are equipped with an identification bar code on every single package, with the relative line of production clearly visible".

In the dried fruit segment, the raw material storage phases are fundamental, which means technology and large, fully automated cold rooms with constant and optimal temperatures, depending on the raw material stored. This is because the production capacity of the company's facilities can process 200 tons per hour of dried fruit ready to be sorted for the packaging phases.

Overall, the dried, dehydrated and seeded fruit sector is growing strongly in the three reference areas, that of beverages (readymade drink mixes), nuts (nuts&dried fruit mixes) and snacks (superfood bars).

"With the recent post-lockdown reopenings, the demand for nuts and in particular roasted and salted peanuts is growing, especially the large sizes suitable for aperitifs. We have converted shelled mixes and snacks into products that are healthy, by mixing nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts and pistachios) and dehydrated fruits, from the most common ones to mango, papaya, blueberry and ginger".

Among the best-selling product categories are almonds and shelled walnuts processed in all form, from the most traditional to practical snacks enriched with other dehydrated fruits.

"Among the future projects, we would like to strengthen exports, aware that one of the main factors of growth is the selection of raw materials together with quality in production processes. These two factors are essential in order to offer a high-quality product on the markets that, despite the higher costs of the supply chain, is appreciated by consumers who care about good and tasty fruit.

Mocerino is massively present in the large-scale retail trade, with 80% of its turnover in Italy, 10% wholesalers and 10% abroad between Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro, Malta and the United Kingdom, with quality products certified by IFS and BRC Food.
