Angeleno black plums are one of the leading products of FeVi Frutta. "Not just because we grow them, but also because we manage to sell them until Christmas thanks to cold-storage units," explains Rocco Viggiano, sales manager of the wholesale company located in Policoro, Basilicata.
"There is very little summer fruit available on the market, so those who manage to have good quantities of stone fruit achieve interesting contracts with various domestic players at satisfactory quotations. Orders are good for these plums so much so that, if the things will remain the same over the next weeks, we will have to stop selling earlier than usual, around early December."
Rocco Viggiano
"In order to prolong the calendar, harvesting is carried out early. The produce is placed in bins and stored in units at a temperature of 1.5/2°C, then it is processed only a few hours before shipping. Grades, sugar level and flavor seem to be much appreciated by the market, and the prices prove it: the fruits in basket boxes reach an average wholesale quotation of €1.80-2/kg."
Pallets of Clemenruby and Orogros
"As for citrus fruit, after a less-than-thrilling start for Miyagawa tangerines, we started with varieties that are definitely more appreciated by the markets such as Clemenruby® and Orogros®, as well as with the first volumes of local oranges, which are tasty and popular though the color is not yet uniform. We have been selling citrus fruit for the past 20 days, but demand has just picked up and, considering the lower yields, this could mean sales will be livelier. Demand has been increasing not only in central and northern Italy, but also abroad, especially in Luxemburg and Great Britain."
