The walnut campaign has started on a good note at New Factor. Sales Manager Francesco Perego reported that "the 2021 Chandler variety campaign is characterized by high quality and excellent grades and sales are in line with expectations also when it comes to prices. The level of Italian walnuts is high and the market is reacting well."
There seems to be a lot of interest from the big retail chain, especially for 10 kg cardboard boxes of loose produce. "At the same time, 500 gram packs also seem popular. Eco-friendly paper packets are particularly appreciated too." Wholesale markets are interested in the Italian produce as well, which is in demand from specialized stores.
In a year when the cost of raw material is increasing day after day, the walnut chain is also suffering. "It is not easy to contain costs, especially in such a segment where it is necessary to dry the product thus using up a lot of energy."
As for production, the In-Noce project is proceeding as planned. Maurizio Ricci, spokesman for project, stressed that "our current production potential is around 800 tons, which we should double over the next 4 years, as various groves will become productive soon. The Italian market is looking for domestic walnuts and, by increasing our availability, we should make the chain more efficient."

Domestic quantities are not enough, so a lot of produce is imported from the US, France and South America. "This year, it seems there are fewer volumes of walnuts from California and logistic problems are slowing down imports. This could favor the Italian walnut market, so we are expecting December to be very lively."
