Ad van der Staaij's 35th Spanish winter season

Ad van der Staaij cultivates and supplies Spanish open field vegetables to the Netherlands. This year, for the 35th time. This milestone is in the same year that Staay Food Group as a whole turns 75. Various types of lettuce were first supplied. This week it is Ad's endive, celery, and other products' turn. The much-loved mandarins have also arrived under the Masia del Pino house brand.

Full soil vegetable supplies are gradually shifting from the Netherlands to Spain again. In the 80s, the Staay Food Group, founded in 1946, took the initiative in this now well-known process. Then Ad left for Tarragona in Spain. He began farming and organizing that cultivation according to Dutch quality requirements. Staay-Savasun, as the branch is called, was founded in 1987.

Since then, its acreage has grown steadily. Ad's daughter, Bianca, and grandson Lars now assist him. The Van der Staaij family takes care of the fresh produce supply to the Netherlands during the winter season themselves. From November to March, Staay trucks transport the freshly harvested products to Dutch and Belgian customers every day.

Broad range for different target groups
Ad grows (PlanetProof) products for retail, food service, industry, and (wholesale) trade clients. There is a wide range of fruit and vegetables available to these buyers. Most are packed under the Staay house brands, Masía del Pino and NERO Premium. Ad not only cultivates the vegetables mentioned.

He grows spinach, cauliflower, romanesco, pointed cabbage, and celery leaves. Ad also cultivates fennel, spring onions, parsley, and broad beans too. As for fruit, there are the aforementioned leaf mandarins. And there are apples (Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and Elstar), pomegranates, cherries, plums, and apricots.
