Production volume declined compared to last year

Chinese market officially opens the season for imported Spanish oranges

The Chinese market officially opened the season for Spanish import oranges. The supply season is expected to continue until June. "Most of our Spanish import oranges are produced in southern Spain. We primarily import Navel orange varieties such as the Barfield, Powell, and Cheslly." This is according to Mr. Jun Pan of Ole Fruit, who recently talked about the new production season of Spanish oranges.

The overall production volume of Spanish oranges slightly declined this season due to unfavorable weather conditions. "The Chinese import market has high standards for imported fruit. We therefore carefully examine the product quality of our oranges. This season we approved fewer oranges for sale in the Chinese market, so our supply volume slightly declined in comparison with previous years," said Mr. Jun Pan.

The ongoing pandemic has severely impacted fruit import and export in the last two years. However, the impact is now much weaker than at the beginning. Still, distribution in particular continues to struggle with the obstacles that result from the Covid-19 pandemic. Shipping fees remain high. Current shipping fees are almost 300% higher than before the outbreak of Covid-19. Mr. Pan Jun explained, "we paid even more attention to the product quality of the oranges we supplied to the Chinese market this year, precisely because the cost price of international trade is rather high."

Ole Fruit was the first Spanish orange supplier to enter the China. This is already their sixth year in the market. The Spanish Corona Gold oranges enter the Chinese market via several first-grade wholesale markets at the same time. The company is also talking with several Chinese supermarket chains and e-commerce platforms to discuss strategic cooperation and open up new markets. "Everybody knows that high-end fruit is always valuable, regardless of the production volume. And we only send the best Spanish oranges to China," said Mr. Jun Pan.
