Following the events in Ukraine and the radical geopolitical changes that result from them, fruit and vegetable producers are calling for a total and immediate rethink of the European "Farm to Fork" agricultural strategy. This crisis brings us back to reality: our food autonomy is at the mercy of major crises. The ''Farm to fork'' strategy, whose effects will be felt in a few years, can only worsen this situation. Fruit and vegetable producers are asking for nothing more than a favorable regulatory environment to continue to feed the French tomorrow!
Russia's recent declaration of war on Ukraine is shaking up many of our European certainties. These two countries are major players in the fruit and vegetable sector, both in terms of production and consumption. First of all, French fruit and vegetable producers express their solidarity with their Ukrainian colleagues who are now in a particularly uncertain situation for production and marketing.
This armed conflict that is unfolding in Eastern Europe legitimately raises fears of destabilization of agricultural markets with inflation of production costs (inputs and energy, etc.). As a result, European and French food autonomy is being jeopardized, just like our energy or defense autonomy.
Without ignoring the findings of the latest IPCC report, and the need to fight global warming, the agricultural aspect of the Green New Deal, which would lead to a drop in our food production of 15 to 20%, or even more for our industries, is now rendered obsolete by the consequences of this conflict.
If Germany was able to rethink its energy and military strategy very quickly, then the orientations in terms of agricultural production and food at the French and European levels must also be reconsidered.
We call on European leaders to review the guidelines of Farm to Fork for a real policy that guarantees the food independence of the Union and its vocation to feed and export.
