Italian machinery manufacturer RG Impianti has delivered to Ortofrutticola Loru, a cultivation company in Sardinia, a potato processing line with a capacity of 6-8 tons per hour. The technologically advanced line was completely designed and built by RG Impianti.
"The machine is in AISI 304 stainless steel. The processing line allows the customer to wash or dry brush the potatoes with water. It uses a very low bunker so that the customer can easily supply both the product in crates/boxes and in big bags," according to a press release from RG Impianti.
The line also includes a pre-sorter and two sieve sorters. One of those sorters, needed to sort out product that does not reach the desired size, is placed before washing/brushing. The second is placed at the end of the line to sort the potatoes before packaging.

To facilitate packing into 10/15 kg crates, a semi-automatic system is provided. In addition, the line feeds two automatic vertical weighers. The customer can also pre-sort the potatoes directly into crates. The automation and operation of the line is managed by a software developed by Bulltec. With this software, the line can be controlled remotely, and the processing data can be viewed. The software can be interfaced with the customer's ERP.
"We relied on RG because of their years of experience in designing and building potato processing and sorting plants," said the owners of Ortofrutticola Loru. "The engineers and staff are always well prepared and available, both during the initial consultations and during the installation and start-up phase. We had the opportunity to develop the production line according to our working needs and we are very satisfied with it. I can say that our new system has become customized."
