Naturkost Kontor Bremen Ltd purchases kale from the Meyer-Toms organic farm, whose owner is both a co-partner and founder of Naturkost Kontor, Ole Schnaars tells us. Schnaars is responsible for purchasing fruits and vegetables for the Bremen-based company.

In season, meaning from mid-October/early November to February/March, the Bremen-based company can offer 1 to 1.5 tons of kale, which is marketed in the Bremen area and the surrounding region. "Prices are comparable to last year's and remained relatively stable this year. This is to ensure sales and somewhat counteract the slump in sales in the organic market," Schnaars said.
Apart from that, sales for the entire organic range have been more difficult this year. At the same time, however, all products were sufficiently available, Schnaars said. Among Naturkost Kontor's customer base are food retailers, but the kale is marketed more to organic retailers, organic market traders and, on a small scale, to kitchen caterers. The vegetables are sold loose in boxes.

Seasonal demand increased with the first frost. In particular around Christmas as well as in January and February, a higher demand is predicted. "We receive field-fresh kale three times a week; the quality of these goods remained at a stable, high level," Schnaars concludes.
