In 2021, Brazilian fruit exports broke records: 1.24 million tons were shipped, 18.13% more than in 2020. Sales also grew compared to 2020 (20.39%), reaching the US $1.21 billion.
According to data from the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers (Abrafrutas), the main destinations for Brazilian fruit in 2021 were the European Union (48%), the United States (16%), Argentina (4%) and Canada (3%).
In 2022, despite a year with good numbers, the results should be slightly lower than in the previous year. In the first half, there was a reduction of 11% compared to exports from the same period of 2021. Among the reasons for the decrease are the weather problems caused by La Niña, which hindered the development of crops across the country. One of the most affected regions was the São Francisco Valley , considered one of the most important for the production of Brazilian fruits, which received a much higher than normal amount of rain.
Despite the difficulties this year, Brazilian fruits have a permanent place in the international market and are recognized for their high quality and flavor. The most exported national production is mango; in 2021, her sales totaled US$ 248 million, representing 20% of all revenue from fruit exports.
