About five years after the Holden car brand ceased operations in Australia, the site of the last remaining manufacturing facility has undergone a drastic reworking. The former Holden plant in Elizabeth, South Australia, is now completely dedicated to growing mushrooms.
An extensive farm and processing plant worth more than 110 million dollars is now in the works on the old factory site. The goal is to produce more than 20,000 tons of mushrooms and related products each year. The facility is run by Epicurean Food Group. It will employ 350 full-time staff once the transformation is complete in 2024, with some small-scale production already underway.
