"'DUE-Z-R' is an innovative product we introduced to counter and mitigate the unpredictability of climate change. It is basically a ventilation corridor at the center of rows that helps regulate temperature and humidity below the covers," explains Francesco Ruggia, general manager at Retilplast, a company based in Campania that produces and commercializes reinforced films and tarpaulins.
The central corridor has a minimum opening of 50 cm and a maximum opening of 1 meter, which can be adjusted depending on the weather. "If, for example, it is very cold with heavy precipitations, growers can quickly close the corridor to avoid damages to the crop. Viceversa, it can be opened if it's too hot and more air circulation is needed to manage the temperature inside the structure."
"The central corridor can be opened and closed quickly to regulate the temperature and air circulation. The partial opening of the ventilation corridor is manual. The film remains blocked between elastic rods even in case of wind gusts. While the corridor is fully open, the film is kept in place by the Button Hook."

Once only used as protection against weather events, plastic covers are not chosen also based on their capability of filtering solar radiations. Retilplast has invested a lot in research with the objective of improving the quality of light below the covers thanks to a targeted physical manipulation of the solar spectrum.
Retilplast continues to propose solutions for fruit cultivation that can safeguard and improve production when it comes to both quality and quantities. The latest product, which was presented at Interpoma in Bolzano, is a protection film combined with a side anti-insect net. "We will showcase this new junction system between nets and films at Fruit Logisica as well. For us, Berlin is not just an occasion to assess the market, but also a chance to meet our clients from South Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, California and Mexico."
Retilplast's objectives also include increasing the quantity of solar radiation while guaranteeing high transmission levels. "Shade areas are avoided with solar radiation, generating a tangible positive effect on the quality of productions for almost all crops even in winter."
Retilplast will attend Fruit Logistica in Hall 6.1, Stand B-10. Francesco and Walter Ruggia will welcome guests.
