Packaging has to keep up with the times in order to present each product in the best possible way. The Guillin Group's Fresh Produce Division, with its companies Ciesse Paper, Dynaplast, Nespak, and Veripack, specializing in the production of plastic and cardboard food packaging, is a specialist in materials for food packaging. As a partner for scientific analyses on the impact of packaging, it is also responsible for sustainable actions for the planet and the population.
Specialist
In a sector like fruit and vegetables, where products are particularly heterogeneous, it is essential to offer customers the right mix of materials. The packaging must guarantee protection, ensure that stress and contamination do not stand a chance, and avoid the risk of creating a humid environment. Packaging should be chosen based on the product to be packed, its visibility on the shelf, protection, and logistics.
With a wide range in plastic and cardboard, the Guillin Group is today the only packaging manufacturer on the market that can offer solutions such as PP and rPET plastic, cardboard, hybrid solutions (cardboard trays with an rPET plastic lid or with a heat-sealing film) and packing sheets. This can be for large fruit but also for smaller and fragile fruits. Moreover, the recent acquisition of the company Ciesse Paper makes it possible to further expand the range of solutions in solid and corrugated boards, with opportunities for customization and innovation, without production constraints.
Partner
The strong know-how of the Guillin group allows customers to choose the most correct packaging solution and decide for each application individually which material works best in a specific context.
"We can also provide the customer with a life cycle analysis, which is scientific data on the environmental impact of different packaging materials," says Giulia Marini, marketing manager of Guillin Fresh Produce Division. "This standardized method allows us to present customers with the most suitable solutions, assessing eco-design benefits and comparing different technical options. The point is not to pit materials against each other - each has its advantages and disadvantages depending on the indicators - but rather to obtain the broadest possible knowledge of our environmental impact. There is no absolute winner, only the right packaging for each type of product need."
Responsible
Contrary to popular belief, the environmental impact of packaging is many times lower than that of the food product itself. It never exceeds 10%, even taking into account the distribution process and the end-of-life of the packaging (source: Italian Institute of Packaging).
The Guillin Group produces a significant number of trays from recuperated and recycled PET, i.e., with material derived from trays of already consumed products. Indeed, the Tray-to-Tray process stipulates that a certain percentage of plastic comes from recycled material, thus extending the life of the packaging material. Thus, consumers are encouraged to reuse or recycle the plastic tray and thus reduce the final amount of waste, which includes food waste.
Moreover, the Guillin group is also affiliated with the Prevented Ocean Plastic project, which recovers plastic material (bottles) from the environment before polluting the sea off Indonesia's coasts, with the aim of improving the living conditions of the people living there as well as giving them the chance to work in local recycling centers.
The Guillin Group will be present with its Fresh Produce Division at Fruit Logistica (H 5.2/C-10) to present its new range of plastic and cardboard packaging.
