Schomaker Convenience Technik presents automatic processing technology at BioFach 2023:

"You will inevitably need continuous flow systems to continue to serve the demand"

Automation in the processing and packaging of fresh foods is back in full swing after more than two years of Corona. The further processing of organic products is now increasingly relying on highly automated continuous systems for cooking, frying and simmering potato and vegetable products. The family-owned Schomaker company has been dedicated to the development and sale of high-quality technology for 20 years now. It will present part of its wide-ranging machine portfolio at BioFach 2023.

The company, based in Hilter am Teutoburger Wald, will exhibit together with its Dutch partner VH vertical packaging. "We have been cooperating with VH since 2020, distributing their form fill and seal machines in the DACH region. We have noticed that paper packaging and the associated plant technology are particularly well received in the organic sector," says Ulrich Blase, who is in charge of sales in Germany.

Comprehensive advice on all aspects of automated processing
The core competence of Schomaker Convenience Technik is the development as well as the distribution of high-quality plant technology for the further processing of food, including potatoes and vegetables. Blase: "Whether in the production of chips or potato salad - in almost all cases, the raw material must first be cooked before it can be further processed. For this purpose, we have been offering highly automated continuous cooking or deep-frying systems for a few years now, which are also used in the production of vegetable products."

According to Blase, cooking technology has developed rapidly in recent years. "These cooking systems are particularly suitable for processing products of uniform weight and size." Although it is a highly automated system technology, Schomaker is also available to assist medium-sized companies as well as newcomers and lateral entrants with smaller lines. "People often underestimate the personnel and hygiene requirements that come with automated food processing. Accordingly, it's not only our job to supply the technology needed, but also to provide comprehensive advice to our customers."

The continuous cooking system is used in the production of potato products, among other things.

Expanded demand for continuous systems
In the past decade, the German convenience industry has become strongly established in many respects, Blase continues. "Until a few years ago, most daycare centers, schools, retirement homes and other large-scale consumers had their own kitchens, but now the premises are mainly used for core activities. As a result, there is no longer a need to offer and be responsible for several dishes every day; instead, caterers can conveniently supply them as needed. This, in turn, means that caterers no longer produce with conventional equipment; instead, continuous flow systems are inevitably needed to continue to serve the expanded demand. This constant change will continue over the next few years, so in this respect the future outlook for us machine suppliers is definitely positive."
