According to preliminary figures, Colombia exported 1.8 million tons of bananas in 2022, i.e. 7% less than in the previous year. However, production in the Caribbean region increased by 2% growth and exported 883,915 tons, equivalent to 46,038 containers. The Caribbean region accounted for 48% of the country's banana exports.
Tecbaco was the leading exporting company in the Caribbean Region, with 45.8% of shipments. It was followed by Banasan with 27.8% and Uniban with 11.9%. Other outstanding exporters were Banarica, Frusama, and the Daabon business group.
The United States was the main destination for the Caribbean Region's bananas, as it acquired 35% of that area's production. Belgium received 20% of the exported fruit and the UK 17%, followed by Germany, and the Netherlands with 12% and 7%, respectively. France, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, and Italy accounted for 9% of the production exported from the Colombian Caribbean. As a whole, the European Union received close to 40% of the total.
