Direct importer of fresh fruit and vegetables Port International and the Hungarian cucumber producer Zeiler Hungária are linked by a long-standing partnership. What makes the production facility so special and distinguishes the cooperation is discussed by the two managing directors, André Lüling (Port International European Sourcing) and Christian Zeiler (Zeiler Hungária), in a short video that Port International has now published on its website.

Zeiler Hungária is one of several producers that are part of Port International's Exclusive Partner Farming program. More partners will be introduced later this year. "We want to expand the partner program in the future and add more exclusive partnerships," André Lüling explains. In this context, Port International acts as a consultant who, together with international supermarkets, develops cultivation concepts and closely accompanies the entire supply chain.
Cucumber production in the Zeiler Hungária glasshouse
The production facility in Hungary is a glass house in which a special cucumber culture is grown on an area of 5.5 hectares and grown on a high wire. This results in a harvest volume of 550,000 cucumbers per week of excellent quality. Two geothermal wells serve as an energy source to heat the glasshouse. "Sustainability is really a thing here. With Christian Zeiler, we have an experienced producer at our side who has been producing at the highest level for years," says André Lüling. The location is only 30 km from the Austrian border, enabling short logistics routes to the sales markets. Other features are the numerous hours of sunshine and a specialized on-site team. This makes it possible to produce fresh and sustainably for the European food retail trade, seven days a week.
