As prices rise, the demand for imported cucumbers in Ukrainian markets is gradually weakening, although, importers continue to raise prices in the segment Sellers explain it by high prices for cucumbers on the domestic market in Türkiye, from where the main volumes of cucumbers are traditionally imported to the Ukrainian market in the winter.
Imported cucumbers are sold today at 80-97 UAH/kg ($2.19-2.65/kg), which is, on average, 20% more expensive than at the end of last week.
The main reason for the rise in prices for imported cucumbers was their limited supply on the Ukrainian market. After a huge earthquake in Türkiye, the supply of Turkish cucumbers was reduced to a minimum. Therefore, despite the decrease in purchasing activity, importers continue to raise selling prices for cucumbers.
It should be noted that today imported cucumbers in Ukraine are, on average, 33% more expensive than in mid-February last year. At the same time, key market players believe that cucumber prices will continue to rise, while the price increase in the segment will last at least until the end of February. The basis for the assumptions is the fact that imported cucumbers have practically no competitors in the Ukrainian market so far. The harvesting season of cucumbers of the new turnover has not yet begun in most Ukrainian greenhouse complexes. So far, only a few farms have reported the first offers of Ukrainian cucumbers. However, their products are more expensive than imported ones, primarily due to higher costs because of power outages.
