The sector denounces the marketing of Polish apples by Carrefour

French Apple & Pear Association asks Carrefour to stop unfair imports

As French apple growers are faced with an unprecedented increase in costs and a very difficult economic situation, they asked large-scale distributors in January to promote French apples and raise their price by 0.20€/kg [0.21 USD/kg] in order to be able to live from their profession. Carrefour chose to ignore this plea and started marketing Polish apples on their shelves. The French Apple & Pear Association (ANPP) is now asking the management of Carrefour to put an end to these unfair imports.

When we know what Carrefour requires from French producers, the specifications, the “agroecological channels”, the alleged support of the French origin, all this great speech does not make much sense!

Consumers must question Carrefour’s level of requirement regarding the production methods of Polish apples.

A “great plan”, mostly for Carrefour!
A 2kg bag of Polish Golden or Gala apples is sold at 2.99€ [3.20 USD], which is ironically more expensive than the price of a 2kg bag of French apples in most other supermarkets.

Why Polish apples? Simply because Carrefour buys them 50% cheaper than French apples! A good way for Carrefour to inflate its margin and take both consumers and producers for fools at the same time.
