Vietnam targets 2 billion USD in dragon fruit, banana and durian

In 2023, it is anticipated that the export of durian, dragon fruit, and bananas will total 2 billion USD. Early in 2023, the export of fruits and vegetables showed promise; it hit $300 million USD in January, up 3% from the previous year.

This can be attributed to China's early January reopening and to the country's rising imports of fruits and vegetables from Vietnam, as well as to the efforts made by Vietnamese exporters to retain orders with their counterparts in the US, the EU, and Japan.

The export of durian jumped dramatically in the fourth quarter of 2022, reaching 421 million USD, up 137% from the same quarter the previous year reports en.vietnamplus.vn

Banana exports also experienced significant growth, increasing by 34.5% to 311 million USD in 2017.

Trade in products between China and Vietnam has become brisk at the border crossing points. From January 1 to February 13, a total of 220,000 tonnes of fruits were exported to China through border gates in the northern province of Lang Son, a 40% increase from the same period last year.

An agreement inked with China in November 2022 is projected to help banana exports surpass 300 million USD.

After the Philippines, Vietnam is the second-largest exporter of bananas to China. China imports bananas from the Southeast Asian country for more than $1 billion a year.

In the previous year, Vietnam earned close to 1.4 billion USD from the export of durian, dragon fruit, and bananas.
