Despite a delay of the grape season, the situation seems positive at the moment, says Amit Kalya, managing director of Indian grape exporter Kalya Exports: “We’ve seen a small delay on the start of the grape season in India. However, the quality of the grapes has been very good this year. The market is stable as of now, and since the quality of the grapes is on a good level, the season is expected to remain stable for us exporters as well.”
Although the start of the season was unusual, things have calmed down and Kalya does expects the season to remain stable while it lasts. “The delay was due to the rains, which happened during the early harvest season and also due to a longer monsoon. This had an effect on the early grapes. However, that is now behind us and we’ve moved on to the good part of the season. In my opinion the market is stable now and should remain so for the upcoming weeks. It’ll be a good situation for exporters from India.”
Luckily, despite the challenges, quality and sugar levels are on par with the requirements for the export markets: “With the season finally going in a smooth manner, it’s good to say that demand has been quite strong this season. Ever since last week, India has been able to supply this demand. The sugar levels are as per requirements, which helps us to offer more volumes as well as reach wider destinations for the grapes,” Kalya concludes.
