According to the Swiss Association of Cantonal Chemists, fruit salads in Switzerland have been discovered to be contaminated with Listeria and coagulase-positive Staphylococci (ACCS).
By collecting 205 samples, cantonal scientists examined the fruit salads' microbiological quality. Ten items had bacterial contamination.
To check the microbial quality and for the existence of bacteria that could be harmful to human health, samples of fruit salads were collected throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein during the control, which was planned to run from May to September 2022.
The cantonal scientists had predicted a better outcome, but this one was worse.
The presence and growth of coagulase-positive Staphylococci and Listeria monocytogenes, which were found in five samples each, were not stopped by the acidity of fruit salads.
