In January, Brazilian banana exports dropped compared to the same month last year. According to Secex, the volume shipped was 7,280 tons, down 12%. Revenue dropped 9%, amounting to just US$ 2.98 million (FOB).
This drop is due, despite the good volume harvested here, to the financial obstacles of Argentina, one of the main importers of the Brazilian fruit. Furthermore, there was a good supply of bananas at more attractive prices and good quality in Paraguay – at the time, Brazil's main competitor. For February, the scenario should remain similar.
