According to data from the Statistical Observatory of Bananas (OEB), the main Middle Eastern destinations for the country's bananas between January and December 2022 were Turkey with a 33.38% share, Saudi Arabia with a 23.34% share, and Iraq with 18.52%.
Qatar ranked seventh among the Middle East's largest banana importers with a 1.10% share. Exports to Qatar, as the MAG recently announced, are expected to increase now that the fruit will be sold in the micro-markets of Woqod fuel stations, the largest gasoline distribution company in the country.
The Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE) highlighted the good performance of Ecuadorian banana exports to that destination, as well as to other countries in the region. “In general, we can say that there is a process of expansion in fruit exports to the Middle East market, as there have been high annual growth rates in eight of the ten countries that make up the region,” the export union stated.
According to official data from the Central Bank, Ecuador's total banana exports amounted to $3.145 billion in 2022.
