Russian growers ask to limit potato imports

The Potato Union at a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture proposed to limit the import of potatoes to Russia. Russian potato growers are faced with a marketing problem; warehouses have accumulated record stocks of products for this time. The main reason for this seems to be the successful harvest, which led to lower prices in the wholesale sector. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in early February, prices fell by 37.3% to 17.2 rubles per kg.

The decrease in demand may be due to the fact that when purchasing chains prefer imported products due to their more attractive appearance, said Dmitry Leonov, deputy chairman of the board of Rusprodsoyuz. At the same time, according to him, domestic potatoes are in no way inferior to imported ones in terms of quality and taste.
