The first red plums from South Africa have started arriving in Italy, and Granfrutta Zani continues to import larger volumes every year. "We are satisfied both with the varieties and with the response of the supermarket chains. Plum is a niche product at this time, an item that is intended to complement the portfolio, but volumes are increasing every year," says sales manager Antonio Zani.
Red skin and flesh
The varieties coming in now have very red skin and flesh. They have a high brix degree and the balance with acidity is excellent. "And who would be purchasing plums today unless they were delicious? It is precisely thanks to their excellent quality that they are gaining a place on supermarket shelves."

Plums from South Africa are available from mid-February to early June. They arrive by ship at the port of Rotterdam, Europe's trade hub. "The right caliber, good taste, premium line and very few varieties are the elements that set our import plums apart in the off-season," explained Zani.
There are several packaging options. Many of our customers are happy with the 30x40 carton (5 kg in two layers) that comes with the product from South Africa. But Granfrutta Zani also has other options: single-layer 30x40, 40x60 or trays of 500 grams. "We can meet any request," concluded Zani.
