Three hi-tech mechanisms set up in Kartarpur Centre of Excellence for Vegetables

At the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Kartarpur, three hi-tech mechanisms have been set up and put to use: a grading line that works on color coding of vegetables for sorting vegetables of different colors; a hydroponic unit with lettuce, cabbage, strawberries, parsley and cherry tomatoes; and a plant health clinic laboratory for diagnosis of crop diseases.

The centre has allocated Rs 6.5 mln for grading line, Rs 5 mln for hydroponic system and Rs 1.86 mln for the plant health clinic laboratory. Horticulture Department Director Shailender Kaur said, “It is the first time that a grading line for vegetables that works on color coding has been launched in a government set up.” She added: “We will offer services of using the grading line to the vegetable farmers at minimal costs.”
