On Tuesday, Eucofel, the European Fruit and Vegetables Association, held its annual assembly in Brussels. In the assembly, Eucofel approved the lines of action for 2023, including the exhaustive follow-up of the regulations derived from the Farm to Table Strategy.
At the Community level, this strategy poses a major challenge to fruit and vegetable production because it provides for a drastic reduction in the use of pesticides and fertilizers. "The proposal for a regulation on the sustainable use of plant protection products derived from this strategy and presented by the European Commission on June 22 of last year is of particular concern. Its goal is to harmonize the requirements relating to the sustainable use of plant protection products at the EU level, which is currently established under Directive 128/2009, to face the shortcomings found in the implementation, application, and execution of this directive in the different Member States," FEDEX stated.
Eucofel is made up of associations of producers and exporters from different Member States, including FEPEX and Spain's Citrus Management Committee.
