Peruvian table grape exports up but Ica region down 12%, losing $90 million

The export of table grapes in Peru from the northern zone (Piura) and south (Ica) in a comparison with the previous campaign shows an increase in container volumes. In the north of the country we have a volume increase of 23% close to 16 000 containers compared to 13 thousand containers the previous campaign in 2022.

The graph shows the Ica region's drop in container exports in January 2023.

“In Ica due to the regional strike there was a reduction in exports by 12%, mainly in weeks 4 and 5 with a volume of 2,343 containers, which at market price would have a value of $ 90 million dollars in this crop,” said Noe Gutierrez, a data modeller and found of adoc.pe.

Peru table grape exports week 6, 2023.

Export of fresh grapes in Peru at the end of week 6 (12 Feb) shows a total volume of 33 000 containers, 4% above the previous campaign of 2022 in the same period with an average fob price of $ 2.58 per kg. This shows producers and exporters have been working hard during February to catch up after nearly two weeks of closures in January due to the riot actions.
